Building
a Community of Social Investors
HSVP's members are successful professionals who
want to give back to the Houston community in a
way that makes use, not just of their money, but
of their professional expertise as well.
Our
members invest their collective time, talent and
money in high-impact social sector agencies
addressing the root causes of community problems
to help them accomplish their missions.
Our vision
is to build a philanthropic organization based on
the venture capital model where members:
Weigh investment
opportunities based on relative levels of
Value (i.e. What are we buying?)
and Risk (What is the
likelihood that we will get it?), and
Nurture our financial
investments with the guidance and other
resources of the HSVP network.
Connecting
Business with Community
HSVP is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven
organization. Each Partner commits to a minimum annual contribution for two years when he/she
joins.
Additionally,
members are encouraged to contribute their time
and expertise. Partners provide whatever
resources it takes to ensure the success of our
nonprofit beneficiaries. We contribute in areas
such as mentoring, M&A facilitation,
technology, finance, strategic planning, legal,
marketing and more.
Catalyzing
a New Generation of Social Investors
Individuals often join HSVP in order to learn
more about issues in the community and how they,
as individuals, can positively impact the work of
social sector organizations. We feel that getting
involved on the Investment Committee and in
projects with our Investees (i.e. our funding
recipients) are great venues for hands-on
learning; additionally, we periodically host
programs aimed at further developing the personal
philanthropy of our individual Partners.
