Who We Help

HSVP is helping to make the Houston community a better place to live by partnering with deserving and innovative non-profit organizations.

HSVP invests in registered 501(c)(3) organizations that have well-thought out plans for a new, innovative program or internal initiative that will have significant positive impact on Education or Other Children’s Issues in Harris County.

Additionally, because HSVP wants to be able to have an impact with, not just its funding, but also the volunteer efforts of its members, we tend to look for the following organizational characteristics in our investees:

  • Have programs that effectively address the root causes of problems and bring about lasting fundamental change in the people served,
  • Understand the importance of building internal organizational capacity in order to achieve their missions,
  • Are committed to long-term planning in developing and growing their programs and infrastructure,
  • Will embrace a partnership with HSVP, which includes intensive self-assessment and working with volunteer "consultants",
  • Be committed to using outcomes measurement and evaluation to provide the most effective programs possible, and
  • Exhibit a high level of leadership and competence among key staff members.

Reviewing our past investees will provide additional insight into the types of organizations we work with.

Being selected as an HSVP investee is not an easy process. While it does not involve an extensive written proposal, it does involve an intensive screening and evaluation to ensure that our values are in sync and that the efforts of HSVP will help them achieve their objectives more effectively.
